The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear arguments in a challenge to President Donald Trump’s signature healthcare law, a move that means the justices could take up the latest case in their five-year-old term.
Justice Anthony Kennedy said the court could consider a case brought by three states seeking to block a portion of the law.
That lawsuit was filed on behalf of seven states and their residents.
The case is being heard in the U, S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
The law allows states to establish their own health insurance exchanges, but they are not required to offer coverage to residents.
A similar challenge in the state of Maryland has been filed by the state’s Democratic governor.
